The diving club

Egersund Diving Club was founded in 1974 and consists of about 60 members.

Diving around Egersund

Located on the southwestern coast of Norway, Egersund is in the direct path of the Gulf Stream. This warm blessing from the south dampens the seasonal fluctuations and makes us able to enjoy all year diving. There's no off-season in Egersund!

In the winter the cold water (3°-10°C) tends to be incredibly clear. With visibility up to 50 meters, this is the season for wreck diving. Our closest wreck site is no more than a 5 minutes boat ride away. Several ships were sunk by mines and combat airplanes during the Second World War, just off the coast. Some of these wrecks are within the reach of sports divers.

During the summer we may spot large schools of herring as well as an abundance of other fish. When there's a current from north it brings clear water and good visibility even in the summer. Numerous visiting divers claim that the west coast of Norway provides the best diving in Europe.

Egersund can offer:

  • Wreck diving
  • Wall diving
  • Cave diving
  • Impressive scenery (kelp forests, a rich marine life, white sandy bottoms and eerie underwater rock formations).
  • A beautiful and rich marine vegetation and a varied array of marine life.
  • Incredibly clear water
